Life tips inspired by Alice de Janze (1899-1944)

"The whistle of London Express blew, and I realized that he was going away from Paris - and from me forever - I suddenly changed my mind and resolved to take him away with me into the Great Beyond. Slowly - very slowly - I loosened my grip around his neck, placed the revolver between our two bodies, and, as the train started, fired twice - into his chest and my own body."

1. Style is about your weapon of choice looking divine
On the 25th of March, 1927, Alice went shopping with her lover, Raymond de Trafford. Alice bought a gold-mounted, pearl handled revolver.

Trafford was unable to marry her because his family disapproved and were threatening to cut him off, and Alice was so distraught by this; when parting from him at the train station later that day, she shot him once in the stomach, and then turned the gun on herself.

2. Be bewitchingly lovely
If you attempt to dramatically murder your lover at the train station and both survive, this will really help your odds of a quick acquittal at the trial. Instead of your lover feeling bitter about that bullet to the lung, he will instead feel immense guilt for causing you emotional disturbance, and will say it was all an accident.
The whole event will be rather cheap; Your penalty will be 100 francs - four dollars.

3. Being cheerful is overrated
One story tells of Alice opening the shutters of her house in Kenya one morning, and remarking, "Oh God. Not another fucking beautiful day". Take that Disney princesses.

4. Own a panther

5. Any excuse to party will do
When Alice later killed herself, two days after her 42nd birthday, using the same gun she had used in 1927, she asked her friends to hold a cocktail party on her grave.
